Alex Proyas to direct Summit's Gods of Egypt

I, Robot director Alex Proyas is in talks with Summit Entertainment to direct Gods Of Egypt. Proyas previously directed the thriller Knowing for the studio back in 2009.

Set amongst the pyramids and sphinxes, the film tells the story of a common thief and a god on a magical quest. Basil Iwanyk is producing through Thunder Road with the director and his Mystery Clock Cinema.

The director is best known for his work on I, Robot and Dark City. He is currently casting for his next film The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag.

This project is still in development.

Director’s Cut of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ to Include Infamous Original Ending?

The team over at WSJ Speakeasy seem to know what they're doing. One NYC screening of Frank Oz's 1986 musical Little Shop of Horrors, a few well-placed phone calls, and voila: a little weekend news bite that should be great news to lots of movie nuts…

It looks like we're finally going to see that infamous "dark" ending that Frank Oz had to cut back in '86! Yes, this ending has been up on YouTube for a while, but there's a big difference between a sketchy clip and a full-bore digital reconstruction of this crazy end sequence. Runner Runner Eyes Anthony Mackie

Anthony Mackie circles Runner Runner

New Regency is in talks with Anthony Mackie to join the drama Runner Runner. Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck are set to star in the project.

The drama centers around the world of offshore online gaming and an increasingly tense relationship between a business founder and his protege. The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman is directing from a script by David Levien and Brian Koppelman.

The actor most recently took part in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and is playing a key role in Michael Bay‘s Pain and Gain, which is currently shooting.

Production for the project begins next month.

Disney planning Peter and the Starcatchers movie

Walt Disney Pictures has inked a deal with writer Jesse Wigutow to adapt best-selling children’s novel Peter and the Starcatchers.

The Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson novel is described as an evocative and fast-paced adventure on the high seas. On a faraway island, an orphan boy named Peter and his pretty, mysterious new friend, Molly, overcome bands of pirates and thieves in their quest to keep a fantastical secret safe and save the world from evil.

The novel was also adapted for Broadway, were it won nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Play.

This project is still in early development.

Fox plans Playdate with Tim Hill

20th Century Fox is making a deal to pick up family film Playdate with Alvin and the Chipmunks‘s Tim Hill to direct.

Plot details are being held under wraps, but we do know that director Tim Hill and Dave Johnson are writing the script, which will become a vehicle for the director.

The project will be produced by Nicky Weinstock through Invention Films.

This project is still in early development.
